How much water do chickens drink?

Most chickens drink a minimum of 0.5 litres of water a day & more on hot days. When they are busy they can drink up to 5 litres of water a day - now that's a lot of water!!

What happens if they don't drink water?
  • They become dehydrated.
  • They will probably stop laying eggs.
  • Their feathers will fall out - molting.
  • They won't grow.
Water is very important for a healthy chicken. Many of our chickens willstand on the side of the water container & accidently knock it over. to stop this happening we have a variety of different holders scattered around the garden to make sure they have enough water at all times. It is also important to regualrly check the containers have water in & it is changed regularly. Our chickens love fresh water & will come running over to it when you put new water out fro them.
