This week's clucker is Brave. Hi everyone,
My name's Brave and I have been here since The Garden first saw chickens. I have ben asked to write this weeks Weekly Cluck as I have witnessed first hand some very odd going ons. Headlines: My first week as a spy. Some of the girls get high! This Weekly Cluck is a catch up on the last few weeks. For those of you who are regular Cluckers you will know Val has been up to all sorts of antics, firstly disappearing to lay in the bush behind the woodshed, then being over the side in the field. I have been keeping an eye on her, which isn't too difficult for us chickens as we can only see through one eye at a time anyway. Val had been behaving oddly, pretending to busy herself and when she thought no one was watching she would disappear back behind the woodshed. I followed her one day, staying safey in The Garden, to see where she had gone. I checked her old nest, but she wasn't there, I checked behind the bins, but she wasn't there, I even checked through the fence into the field on the other side of The Garden, but still no sign. I decided to be Brave - cluck cluck- did you see what I did there, brave and Brave, oh I am so clever sometimes - anyway I decided I would make my way over the safety fence and see where she was. I had become a little worried not knowing where she might have gone. I flew up and over landing gentlyand began my search. She was no where to be found. Just as I was getting a little concerned, one of the humans came out to collect our eggs. she was pottering around, chatting to us as she always does ,when she suddenly stopped and said " Val what on earth are you doing?". I couldn't see Val anywhere and I looked to where the human was pointing. There was Val half way up a tree, in a new nest!! Well I never, she is such a crafty chicken, she popped herself up, clucked at the human, leapt from the tree onto the woodshed roof and back into The Garden as if this was perfectly normal. The human then saw me, " Brave" she said, "what on earth are you doing on the wrong side of the fence?". I scurried around trying to find my way back, pecking at the fence, looking at branches but I just couldn't work out a way back in. The human knelt down beside me and gently lifted the bottom of the fence and I was able to walk back into the safety of The Garden. I think I will stay here it's much safer. Some of the girls get high. So today I was pottering around the garden, digging for grubs, when I heard the human shout, " Quick come and look at this the chickens are in the tree". It must be Val I thought, but no there was Val by the food bucket. Who on earth could it be? I wandered over and saw Ruffles and Pinky high up in a tree looking like they were stuck and with no obvious way down. The other human came over with a big log and the girls manged to get down one at a time. How funny they were slipping down the branch and a little unsteady on their feet. I know one of the humans made a video on that human You Tube. Well that's it from me, I hope you have a clucking good week, I am off to see that if that video clip is on Chick Tube, I hear it is the talk of The Garden, you never know I might be in the back ground. Brave.

By Charlie Cockeral Here are the headlines: Girls go a wandering, Bluie is trying to hatch golf balls and VAL IS OVER THE SIDE!!! The last few weeks have proved extremley busy here in the garden. The new girls have started to lay and the humans can often be seen walking around balancing eggs in their arms, I don't know why they don't just have a basket or something to carry them in. Several of the girls went for an explore up the road the other day. I was busy looking for grubs and looked up to find The Garden very quiet and hardly any of the girls about. I hot clawed it across the garden to find the gate open and the girls wandering back in clucking about the pretty flowers and how lovely the field was opposite. Not long after a friendly female human came in and starting counting us, I am not sure who she was but she was very kind and seemed to be worried about us all being in the garden. She made sure the gate was firmly shut when she left. The humans have been placing golf balls in various places round the garden, I overheard them saying it was because one of the girls was eating the eggs and this would help. I didn't tell the girls as I don't want them eating the eggs - seems a bit weird to me to lay and then eat your own egg. Any way it's worked as the prime suspect in "egg gate" was last seen tapping at a golf ball with no success. Unfortuanately Bluie thinks the golf balls are eggs and as they don't move she has become broodie again and sits on them for hours - she really is a daft chicken. Finally Val has been over the side - yes Val. I spied her the other day jumping upon the old slate pile, hopping over the fence and squeezing through a small gap into the "other side". She then disappeared and came back about half an hour later. I watched her do this for about a week. The small human was in the garden when I heard her shout "mummy quick come her" and Val had been found out. So that's all the news from The Garden and I must go as my favourite animal football team "Whales" are playing the second half and look like they might win!!
Happy clucking Charlie |
