Hello everyone,

My name's Charlie and this is my first ever cluck.

It's been a busy week, but then again it always is living with 20 women!!

Black and Blue are still incredibly broody  and the humans have to come out and move them from their spots. It wouldn't be so bad if Blue didn't insist on being broody where the other girls want to lay. Boy there is a lot of clucking when a queue forms at laying time.

Val is currently laying double yolkers. These are quite rare, 1 in a 1000 eggs and this week saw her third, she's a sturdy girl who looks after the others. To be fair she is my second in charge, well actually I generally leave her to it. I like to get to bed nice and early and get a good spot so I leave Val to round up the girls.

The humans have cut down the nettles leaving lots of worms and other grubs for us and it's given us a lot more space to roam around in.

Just as we got our injunction out against the Crow family we are now having problems with Mr and Mrs Magpie and their very greedy children. I wouldn't mind but when they come to dinner they don't even bring a bottle - very rude. Their manners are also terrible and they don't wait to be asked before they tuck in. Brave is doing a good job of charging at them if they are eating too much.

I know the humans were a little worried when they got me about how much noise I would make, to be honest I am only noisy when I am having a particularly lucky morning or am very happy and even then it only lasts for a few minutes. I scared them last week as I fell asleep in the bushes with Red and Green, when we woke up the doors to bed were locked, we slept under the stars and it was lovely, although I do like my bed so perhaps I'll just do that on special occasions. Now the bushes have been cut back I won't be able to hide any way - mmmm perhaps that's why they did it?

Right I must be off to get my spot in the coop. Have a clucking good week, I know I will,

Charlie Cockerel
